Mary Beth Carty
Mary Beth Carty est née à Antigonish et a grandi à Lanark. La fille plus âgée de Sara (MacDonald) et Ed Carty, était entourée par une famille très musicale. Elle a commencé à chanter avant qu’elle puisse même parler. Elle joue du piano, guitare, accordéon, basse et une collection de petits instruments de percussion. Beaucoup des cousins sur le côté de sa mère jouent du violon et sont musiciens professionnels.
Son père est né en Écosse et il a étudié en Belgique; d’abord le français se parle chez eux. Beaucoup des chansons dans son répertoire incluent les chansons acadiennes anciennes et traditionnelles. Elle trouve l’inspiration des artistes comme Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, et même R.E.M. Mary Beth Carty was born in Antigonish and raised in Lanark. The oldest daughter of Sara (MacDonald) and Ed Carty, she was surrounded by a very musical family. She started singing before she could even speak. She plays piano, guitar, accordion, bass and a collection of small percussion instruments. Many of the cousins on her mother’s side play the violin and are professional musicians.
Her father was born in Scotland and studied in Belgium, so French is spoken in their home. Many of the songs in her repertoire include old and traditional Acadian songs. She finds inspiration from artists such as Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and even R.E.M.
